As per advisory from the SSD, all seniors are required to go to school tomorrow, 14 March 2012, for a retake of the peer evaluation for the special awards for graduation. In view of this, please be advised to CANCEL ANY AND ALL UNNECESSARY ACTIVITIES scheduled for that day (or, at least, on that time period).

Hey Batch 2012!
First, there will be flag cem tomorrow! It's at 7:30AM...please do not be late for the LAST flag cem.
Second, for those who DIDN'T go to the camping, please remember to bring the following for tomorrow's Comm Serve:
Bring individually (recommended...to the point na medyo required na siya): working gloves, newspaper (padding/covering para sa sahig), ID.
Bring individually (as much as possible): brush (brotsa ha...hindi painter's brush), sand paper, basahan, brush.
Bring per platoon: Paint [comes in 3 different colors - black, brown, and green (for the blackboard)], paint roller tray (yung mukhang dustpan).
Please wear your working attire tomorrow (not your CAT uniform). HUWAG WHITE! MAHIRAP LABHAN ANG WHITE! You can wear your batch shirt (from any year). Also, please wear maong pants and rubber shoes.
Finally, we have Pasa Masid practice from 4:30 onwards. Everyone is required to be there (including those who attended the camping).

Today, mas advanced na ang technology sa pagdetect at pagtreat ng mga sakit tulad ng sa kalagayan mo. May mga DNA tests na na puwedeng gawin para ma-diagnose agad ang disease at maagapan ang paggamot dito.
Tulad na lang ng sa cancer, may tinatawag na amniocentesis kung saan pinagbubuntis pa lang ang bata, malalaman na kung may kumplikasyon siya paglaki. Ginagamit ang DNA at iba pang proteins and enzymes mula sa amniotic fluid ng bata --
James: Ano po yung amniotic fluid?
Geneticist: Yun yung nourishing and protecting liquid na nagsu-surround sa baby habang nasa sinapupunan ng nanay... As I was saying, tinitingnan kung may mga defect ang DNA at iba pang proteins and enzymes ng bata. In this way, we are able to determine what diseases the child may have. Mayroon ding mga DNA sensors na nagdedetect ng genetic diseases. DNA sensors attach to the target DNA strands that are related to the disease and signal how much of it is present.
James: Yung lang po ba ang pwedeng genetic test para madetect ang mga disease?
Geneticist: Hindi naman. Para lang yun sa cancer. Marami pang mga tests para naman sa mga infectious diseases. Ginagamit and recombinant DNA technology para madetect ang specific DNA sequence ng isang disease-causing organism. Some infectious diseases that this technology is applied to are AIDS, tuberculosis and Lyme disease.
James: Doc, ano po bang puwedeng gawin para gumaling ako?
Geneticist: Marami na ring treatments na gumagamit ng DNA technology tulad ng tinatawag na gene therapy. Sa gene therapy, pinapalitan ang mutated gene (na nagcacause ng sakit) ng functional and therapeutic gene. Maari ring directly ina-alter ang mutated DNA para gawin itong functional. Actually, ang pinakaunang ginamitan ng recombinant DNA technology ay ang production ng insulin at human growth hormone. Kung yung insulin, primarily used for treating diabetes, human growth hormone is used for treating dwarfism.
James: At sa cancer...?
Geneticist: Para sa cancer, marami ring possible treatments. There is taxol that is used for treating ovarian cancer and tumor necrosis factor that is used as treatment for certain cancer cells. Yung widely used way to treat cancer is with interferons. Naturally occuring siya sa body pero through DNA technology, mas madali na siyang ibigay as medication sa mga patients. Interferons boost the immune system's anticancer function.
James: So, doc, ano po bang treatment ang makakatulong sakin?
Geneticist: Umm, James... Ikinalulungkot ko, pero... Uh... Your sickness has already developed into the advanced stages. I'm sorry, but there's nothing we can do... We can only-- biglang magiging unconscious si james

To 2012: In less than two months, we will leave each other and go our own separate ways. It is an opportunity to make more memories and to cherish the time that we have left. Make the most out of it. Spend your last Valentine's Day in Pisay, with your batch.
To everyone else: Please support our batch's endeavor. This concert is for our legacy, which will help future batches. You will surely feel the love.

Valentine's Day Concert
The Valentine's Day Concert will no longer be a dinner. Thus, the ticket prices have been adjusted to PhP 100.00/head. Snacks and other paraphernalia will not be included in the ticket payment, but will be sold outside the venue.
The venue will still be at the 4F Auditorium and it will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Students are encouraged to participate in this activity. :D

The critique should include an analysis of the scientific aspects of the film, in particular the application of DNA technology and the issue/s tackled.

On Valentine's Day, there might be student-teachers to conduct classes for us. So, I'm now accepting nominations for each class until Feb 3 at 12noon. I placed a green nomination box and 1/4 IP in my pigeonhole. Just write your name, class ID and the name of your nominee for student-teacher.
The Teacher-for-a-day winners will receive a hefty amount of extra credit that can be placed in any of the components of his/her choice provided they deliver the lessons well and handle the class like a pro! I will also raffle off the immunity for quiz 7 from the papers in the nomination box. You may want to witness the draw on Feb 3 at 12NN.
Since Feb 14 is a Tuesday, my Truth monday class will meet at 250 on tue and muon's monday class will be moved to nutrition period.
By the way, please help me remember the immunity winners by writing your name in the list posted at the math bulletin board. Immunity suspended for quiz 4-6. Math intersection elims was recorded as quiz5 so no immunity for that.
